Brand/Manufacturer: Bastionhead

Style: Bevel-down

Blade Width: approx. 10 inches

Overall Width: approx. 18.5 inches

Handle Construction/Material: Quality hardwood with octagonal bandsaw finish.  Fastened with epoxy.

I made an experimental batch of Bastionhead Original series drawknives where an effective hollow back was achieved by slightly changing the position of the blade relative to the frame during welding.  These drawknives also have a little more exposed tang between the handles and the frame, which gives more prying leverage but makes push cutting a little bit less comfortable.  I have decided not to continue production of this minor design variation as a standard offering for the simple reason of expediency of manufacture.

I fabricated these drawknives with a mild steel frame and a high-carbon steel blade to meet my own standard of performance and ergonomics.  They sharpen easily and hold a good edge.  It comes with a reusable plastic edge cover.

I personally grind and hone every drawknife I offer.  Drawknives ship razor sharp, ready to work, and include either a custom sheath or reusable plastic edge cover, as depicted.

*** Ten inches is a lot of blade! This size of drawknife is often requested by serious bowyers who do a lot of heavy stock removal. I do not recommend this large of a drawknife for finer work, such as making spoons or chairs.
