These films are made in the USA and work very well for honing most woodworking tools.  They are especially great for sloyd and hook knives because they are adhesive backed and can be applied to smooth boards, dowels, or pvc pipe.  They can be used dry or with a water-based carrier to suspend swarf particles.  In addition to cutting much faster than stones or abrasive paper, the plastic of the film has a tiny bit of give that seems to help with quickly achieving a uniform bevel surface.  With care, blades can be sharpened edge-first, but there is risk of slicing into and damaging  the film if that is done.  They do wear out eventually, but I believe them to be worth the cost for the efficiency and versatility they offer.

The Coarse Only kit is recommended for blades requiring geometry correction or that have pitting from corrosion, etc.  The grit progression in the Honing kits will achieve a near mirror polish with a minimum of time and effort.  I personally find that stropping after 3000 grit produces glassy-smooth cuts and is more than adequate for most needs, but the 6000 grit option allows for ultimate sharpness.

We've created these kits to offer a convenient size and grit progression with hobbyist carvers in mind.  If larger sheets or quantities are needed, they can be ordered directly from Sharpo.
